The American Legion Riders

The first American Legion Post to have a American Legion Riders Chapter was Post #396 in Garden City, Michigan due to the efforts of Chuck “Tramp” Dare and Bill “Polka”Laledas. Today there are over 106,000 American Legion Riders in over a thousand chapters in every domestic department and in at least three foreign countries. Riders in Iowa have formed an honor guard called “The Five Star Freedom Riders” Riders in Kansas formed the “Patriot Guard” to protect the sanctity of military funerals from protesters. Riders in all states have escorted military units returning home from combat tours and remains of the fallen to internment sites. Through the “Legacy Run”, “riders” this year raised over 2.9 million dollars in support of scholarships and in the annual “Rolling Thunder” POW/MIA event at the Nation’s Capital.
